How breath tests work

We are developing proprietary breath analysis technology uses state-of-the-art mass spectrometry to identify toxins and other chemicals in your breath. This technology is usually found in research labs, but we have brought it into the real world.

Simple
& Quick

A breath test designed to find toxins simply, quickly and accurately

  • Designed to reliably detect key toxins in your breath

  • Creates a personal exposure timeline you can access whenever needed

  • All data securely stored in the cloud-based DxE Health Data Platform

How it works

Our machine is based on established mass spectrometry technology originally developed in university research labs. It takes your breath and ionizes it so it can be analyzed. This gives a huge dataset with thousands of peaks for all the chemical compounds detected in your breath. We then use AI to identify the specific peaks that indicate the presence of the toxins we are looking for. This list of toxins is regularly updated as we gather more information. Our breath analysis machine consists of several main components:

breath ionization

Soft ionization device

mass spectrometer

The importance of regular breath tests

We recommend tests every 3 months to ensure timely detection

The timeline from exposure to disease

Diagnose Early's tests are designed to detect exposure before you have been harmed

Data is secure and private

Your body metabolizes some toxins in days but they may cause disease years later: Benzene is metabolized in hours, however, it can lead to aplastic anemia, leukemia, and multiple myeloma

Data is secure and private

Other toxins and chemicals last forever in your body: PFAS compounds are a perfect example. The more you are exposed to them, the greater the amount in your body. This is called bioaccumulation.

Typical toxin exposure curve

toxin exposure curve
  • Toxin levels build to a maximum level Cmax at time Tmax

  • The body metabolizes the toxin

  • Over time the toxin is eliminated until the level is no longer detectable

Case study: Camp Lejeune

The Marine Corps training base at Camp Lejeune had a badly contaminated water supply. It was found to have contained:

  • Benzene

  • Perchloroethylene (PCE)

  • Trichloroethylene (TCE)

  • Vinyl chloride (VC)

Thousands of recruits developed cancers, organ damage and cognitive issues due to these toxins. The problems took years to be identified and even longer to be acknowledged. Eventually the Camp Lejeune Justice Act was signed in 2022

FAQ

As a firefighter, you get exposed to toxins daily. Our unique breath tests help you understand which toxins might be present in your body.

What is breath testing?

Breath testing is a new way to check what toxins are present in your body. It is designed to be non-invasive and pain-free. You simply blow into a tube connected to our analysis device and wait a few minutes for the results to appear in the app.

How does it work?

Our machine is based on established mass spectrometry technology originally developed in university research labs. It takes your breath and ionizes it so it can be analyzed. This gives a huge dataset with thousands of peaks showing all the compounds detected in your breath. We then use AI to identify specific peaks indicating the presence of the known toxins we are looking for. This list of toxins is regularly updated as we gather more information.

What happens during my test?

Coming for a test is pretty straightforward.

  • Once you have booked a lab visit you turn up at the correct time/place.
  • You register with the reception and will be asked to verify your ID.
  • You are then invited to provide your samples by blowing steadily into a tube fitted with a new antiviral filter and mouthpiece.
  • We take around half a dozen breath samples in a row to make sure we capture all the information we can.
  • This data is then uploaded to our cloud and analyzed almost instantly.

When do I get my results?

Your results will be available in the app within minutes of completing the test.
